The 2nd Annual Run was held on September 6th, 2008.
Our daylong jaunt to Somerset County, Pa., was more like torture. But having fun was never our true purpose.
Rather, duty was the mission for the Brothers for Flight 93, our families and our friends who
heartily and stubbornly braved hurricane-like conditions on the second annual Brothers for Flight 93 Memorial Ride to the 9/11 crash site near Shanksville.
A downpour pelted the riders and our 10 support vehicles for three-quarters of the 250-mile,
seven-hour trip on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Wind sliced across our faces.
Rainwater drenched our clothing and puddled inside our boots.
For the lucky ones, hands and feet turned numb in the afternoon chill.
But once the half-mile-long caravan emerged on the leeward side of the Allegheny
Mountain Tunnel, the blinding road mist began to clear.
Soon, these crusaders would find themselves at the now-sacred crash site, with the sun peeking though
the low-hanging sky to reveal to them the heroically tragic story of the 40 innocent people who lost their lives on the desolate hillside.
